African Telecom Group LLC.'s Cellular Networks are designed to fit the life cycle of a network, the first three of the following services are targeted at new networks and the others are for expanding coverage or capacity of the network.
Network Design Services:
Licence application support
Radio Propagation Model tuning
Cell Planning
Coverage expansion
High capacity planning
Indoor cell planning
Core Network Design
Network Thinning
License Application Support:
This service provides the Operator with an initial design for setting up the network. Its specifications cover equipment, the number of cells, potential sites, and use of channels and frequency band, amongst other things.
It also provides all data needed to apply for a license. Our support includes map data handling and model parameter optimisation, and nominal cell planning. Having decided on its specifications, the Operator can then obtain the network equipment needed or to seek quotations.
Radio propagation model tuning:
We have the expertise to tune your propagation model to suit your topography and technologies. Our solutions include:
Micro-cell predictions model
2G model tuning3G
3G model tuning
CDMA model tuning
Cell Planning:
This allows the Operator to develop a strategic and tactical plan to establish and provide for the new network. It includes analysis of coverage, the number of subscribers needed, the sites that are potentially available, frequency, and other information.
Cell Planning includes:
Map data handling and propagation model optimization
Nominal cell planning
Site selection
Final radio network design
Verification of radio network design
Coverage Expansion:
This provides the Operator with a plan for expanding the coverage of the cellular network. This plan includes information such as equipment specifications, the number of sites, and use of frequencies and channels.
It also includes a rollout plan and a suggested schedule and strategy for implementing the network.
Our coverage expansion service includes:
Nominal cell planning
Site selection
Final radio network planning
Verification of radio network planning
High Capacity Planning
This service provides the Operator with a plan for expanding the capacity of the cellular network. It provides advice on the equipment and features as well as the number of cells needed to meet capacity requirements. It provides an evaluation of potential sites and the use of frequencies and channels.
It also includes final tuning and verification of quality. Final tuning verifies that the solution we propose fulfils all the Operator's high capacity planning requirements.
Our High Capacity Planning service offers the following solutions:
Building small macro-cells
Tighter re-use of frequencies with a Multiple Frequency Re-use (MFR) pattern
Hot-spot micro-cells and contiguous micro-cell layer
Dual-band networks
Indoor Cell Planning:
This service provides the Operator with a design for the indoor network, in four different phases:
Preparation
System design
Verification
Following the verification, a survey or a detailed physical analysis and RF Propagation testing is carried out. The results of this can then be mapped with CAD. Structural analysis and fiber / coax runs are then considered.
Core Network Design:
This service provides for network architecture design, network element design and dimensioning, circuit switched and packet based transport network design and dimensioning, IN systems design and dimensioning. The core network is designed from perspectives of cost effectiveness, grade of service, capacity, robustness and redundancy, while allowing for future expansion and reengineering as new services and features are planned.
Network Thinning
Network thinning, or removing cell sites from a wireless network, helps carriers move their network from 2G to 2.5G and 3G onwards. In order to realize the efficiencies gained from combining networks and deploying new technologies, the merged networks need to be optimized to serve the existing customer base with equal or better service supported by fewer cell sites.
African Telecom Group's Network Thinning services help maximize site utilization and optimization in a network. By achieving networks with a lesser number of sites and ensuring the network performance, operators realize monetary savings on leasing costs, reduce operating expenses, and ensure more efficient management of the network on all technologies.
Having rolled out and commissioned the network, ongoing optimization is required as the network grows and voice and data traffic increases. New network features can be enabled to enhance capacity and quality of the installed network.
To help the Operator maximize the return on its infrastructure investments, TCL offers Network Optimization Services.
